"Endurance is more than pacing up and down within the cell of our circumstance;
it is not only acceptance of the things allotted to us, it is...magnifying what is allotted to us."

Directional Signs

Don't Go This WAY!
(Sidewalk note encountered on recent morning run)
If only life's directional signs were this clear. Instead, I get the Cheshire Cat telling me that any road will do!

"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"

"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.

"I don’t much care where--" said Alice.

"Then it doesn’t matter which way you go," said the Cat.

"--so long as I get SOMEWHERE," Alice added as an explanation.

"Oh, you’re sure to do that," said the Cat, "if you only walk long enough."

Poetic Sky

Arizona, Morning Sky

i thank You God for most this amazing

day: for the leaping greenly spirits of trees

and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything

which is natural which is infinite which is yes

[E.E. Cummings]

Arizona, Sunset Sky
LET us go then, you and I,

When the evening is spread out against the sky

Like a patient etherised upon a table;

All Hell Breaks Loose

Captured this shot on my drive home from work today (and didn't even get in an accident).  I was so taken with the contrast between the blue and the dust.

It left me wondering whether that wall of brown was coming or going.

Also made me think about the extremes in life, and how the good and the bad presented to us strike such a stark contrast when juxtaposed smack up against each other.  But of course the distinction is rarely so obvious.

Monday's Metaphor -- Pondering the Puddles

Came across this path of puddles on a recent morning run after a desert night-time storm.  I love how the trees and sky are reflected in what the storm left behind.  Looking DOWN at the puddled ground soaking up through my running shoes reminded me to look UP at the clear, glorious sky above me.

Made me reflect on the fact that the storms of life often leave lingering remnants.  But also that those storm puddles offer lessons (and hope) in their reflections.

Possible Impossible

Flying Bathtub at the local children's museum
June 2011
I've been thinking of this quote from Alice in Wonderland:
Alice laughed.  "There's no use trying," she said:  "one can't believe impossible things."  "I daresay you haven't had much practice," said the Queen.  "When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day.  Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."  [Through the Looking Glass, Chapter 5]
These days, my life feels full of impossibilities, with every option a painful one.   Maybe I need more practice believing impossible things?

Waiting for the Fun to Start

I often find this cat sitting patiently by his favorite ribbon, just waiting for the fun to start.  I could use some ribbon movement in my life too.

Hope your ribbon is flying (in a happy way).  Have a great holiday weekend!

No Rest for the Weary

Some days, don't you feel like everything inside you is pleading to PARK, or at least stop for a minute and unload?
